Year Six Lea Green Residential 2017
Here in the Enhanced Resource Facility we pride ourselves in delivering a high standard of support for all our pupils, many of whom have additional needs as well as their deafness.
We use a range of communication approaches to suit the needs of each child. All our staff are experienced in working with deaf children and have a wide variety of skills including British Sign Language up to level 2 / 3 and Communication Support Worker (CSW) qualifications. We also have excellent links with our neighbouring ERF schools and with local groups such as DDCS (Derby Deaf Children’s Society). We have deaf members of staff and students enabling the children to see deaf role models as an ordinary part of school life.
Our weekly Deaf Club is a favourite with all the children. This is an opportunity for them to get together as a small group and chat, play and learn about issues which are important to them as deaf citizens in the community. We follow a Deaf Studies Curriculum which has been developed by our Teacher of the Deaf and Deaf Tutor. This ensures a breadth of learning across the areas of Personal and Social development & Emotional Literacy; Communication; Community & Culture; Deaf History: Technology and Identity.
We learn about emotions. We visit the Listening Bus. We learn as we play together.
We welcome anyone who would like to come and take a look at our facility. Please read our Core Offer Statement which presents a clear summary of what we provide. If you wish to visit, please contact the school office via the details on this site.
The NDCS Roadshow visited us on 12th and 13th July. Children from all year groups had the opportunity to board the bus and learn more about how we can help communicate with children and adults who are deaf. Please take the time to look at our gallery from our interesting workshops.
