Autumn Term 2 in 6LR
Welcome back to another packed term, which leads up to Christmas.
The children have settled back well, after their well earned holiday and are working hard in all of the subject areas.
We are continuing with our topic of World War 2, now looking in more depth at the Home Front, Secret messages and codes, War Posters and The Holocaust.
Our English units this half term will again reflect the wide range of children's literature linked to World War 2.
We will be studying the following books in depth, but many others sources will be referred to over the next few weeks.
The Diary of Ann Frank
Erika's Story by Ruth Vander Zee
Jars of Hope by Jennifer Roy
The above books are all readily available at libraries and bookshops, should you wish to read along with your children.
Maths is taught daily with the aid of the Collins Busy Ant Maths Scheme.
Multiplication tables are taught daily and we would appreciate your help with practising them at home.
Trip to Eden Camp
A great time was had by all on our Year 6 visit to Eden Camp in North Yorkshire. The weather was kinder than in previous years, which enabled us to make full use of all the facilities in the outdoor museum, including the outdoor adventure play area.
The Remembrance Rocks which we made at school, were placed in the Garden of Remembrance there and hopefully, after 11.11.17, the rocks will be taken away by other visitors to their own parts of Great Britain and beyond ,to continue the message of Remembrance for months to come.
Fun was had in the Music Hall, as we sang along to Vera Lyn and were subjected to Sooty squirting water at the audience.
The visit to the shop was a highlight for many, together with lunchtime in Mess Hut 12!
