Summer Term in 6LR
Mrs Roberts and Miss Marshall hope you have enjoyed the Easter holiday.
Welcome back to a new and exciting term in 6LR
The children in 6LR will continue to work hard towards their end of key stage SATs, putting the final touches to their preperations and keeping themselves healthy and motivated for the SATs week, commencing on Monday May 8th.
After testing 6LRwith be having the opportunity to learn and experience many new ideas and themes.
They will soon get into the daily routine of school life once again and will be embarking upon a new and exciting topic: The Valleys that Changed the World.
Some aspects of Topic studied will be:
Ancient Egyptian history
Mummification and the afterlife
The River Nile and its Valley
Rivers of the World
The Derwent Valley and the Industrial Revolution
Eyam, Plague Village
Disease and Vaccination
Our Body and how to keep safe and healthy
History, Geography, Art,, Computing, PE, Music and Science will be taught through this topic.
Our English units this half term will reflect the wide range of materials available within school, including biography, non fiction writing units and much more.
Year 6 will also be beginning to start their rehearsals for the end of term production : more of this to follow!
Maths is taught daily with the aid of the Collins Busy Ant Maths Scheme.
Multiplication tables are taught daily and we would appreciate your help with practising them at home.
Homework is given weekly. This consists of:
Reading at home at least three times a week
Maths homework weekly. Given out on Friday and to be handed in by the following Friday.
Spelling activities weekly. Given out on Friday and to be handed in by the following Friday.

We have two sessions of PE weekly - Monday and Thursday - please ensure that the correct PE kit is in school for those days
